Report a Lost Item on Transit
Department of Transportation and Public Works is not responsible for items left on vehicles, or reimbursement for lost items. Before leaving the bus, train or mover, always check your packages and personal belongings.
The quickest and most convenient way to report items lost in Metrorail, Metromover or Metrobus is by submitting an online request. You will receive a confirmation with a case number once you submit the form.
You may also report your lost item in person or by phone. A representative is available to assist you Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding county observed holidays. Please have your feedback number available when calling for an update.
You will be contacted via email or by phone if a match is found, and a valid identification will be required to retrieve your item.
If you have lost keys or eyeglasses, we recommend you come in person to our Lost and Found office. Lost keys and glasses are too numerous, common and difficult to catalog. Therefore, the best way to identify your item is in person.
After 90 days, unclaimed items are properly disposed. Unclaimed government issued documents will be mailed to the issuing office.
For out-of-state customers unable to pickup a lost item, please contact the office for more information.
The department makes every attempt to return lost items to their owners.
