• How can I become an intern at Animal Services?

  Students wishing to complete an internship within our facility are encouraged to participate in numerous experiential learning activities that will support the agency’s mission while providing beneficial project-based assignments and hands-on experience geared towards the intern’s goals.

  All applicants must be:

  • Interested in one of the available areas of interest
  • Highly driven to broaden their understanding of the department
  • Able to provide a statement with a minimum of 500 words regarding the area of interest for the internship
  • Able to provide an updated and completed resume
  • Able to attend a formal interview
  • Able to pass a criminal background check

  High School Students

  • Must be either a junior or senior
  • Students interested in participating must connect with their school counselor or designated “School Champion” to learn more about the application process. For additional questions or support, the SYIP Internship Hotline is also available at 305-693-3005

  College Students

  • Must complete the internship application
  • Must submit three reference letters from professors or instructors
  • Must provide a copy of official/unofficial transcripts

  College internship schedules will be established upon acceptance into the program. High school internships are created for the school year or summer. Animal Services will accommodate student and school requests for longer or shorter periods.

  Enrollment is open throughout the year. Students may inquire at any time; however, if selected, placement will be scheduled for the next available start date. You can explore current opportunities and submit your application online or visit Miami-Dade County Internships for more information.
