Living by the golden rule

Cueto

''Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'' is the principle of treating others as one wants to be treated. These are the words that Josenrique Cueto has lived by since he was a boy growing up in Hialeah. A professional engineer, Josenrique is the deputy director and chief project delivery officer for the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) overseeing the department’s $6.2 billion capital improvement program, which includes the implementation of Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit (SMART) Program and improvements to the County’s existing transit, roadway, bridge and other transportation infrastructure.

A graduate of the University of Miami and the University of Florida, Josenrique excelled early in his career as an engineering consultant for various public agencies in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. Before bringing his talents to Miami-Dade County, he worked for the city of Coral Gables.

With seven years under his belt, he has distinguished himself as a Miami-Dade County leader in various roles including former interim director for the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department and deputy director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources.

Most recently, Josenrique was recognized by the Florida Engineering Society (FES) for his outstanding work. He received the Young Engineer of the Year Award. Each year, this award is given to a Florida Engineering Society member who is 34 years of age or younger who best exemplifies the ideal image of a registered professional engineer.

Looking ahead, Josenrique is excited about delivering transportation improvement projects for DTPW, Miami-Dade County and the community that will have lasting positive effects.

You may run into him at the golf course on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Although he’s extremely competitive on and off the course, his friendly smile and humble demeanor will probably remind you of one of the greatest guiding principles of all time: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
