Senator René García held a Panel Discussion on Food Dyes
Senator René García held an open discussion Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Florida International University (FIU) on the future of Miami-Dade County’s food supply, the role of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and how the county is leading the effort to phase out harmful additives in favor of safer, natural alternatives.
The panel consisted of five experts that weighed in on the topic of synthetic food dyes, beverages, and the overall well-being of the public’s health with a consensus that synthetic chemicals offer no nutritional benefit and may pose significant health risks to consumers.
“The purpose of this panel is to ensure we drive the conversation forward on how we can all work together — government, our local and private partners, and the community at large — to take the lead toward safer, natural alternatives,” Senator García said. “Ultimately, it takes personal effort to choose healthier options, but we want to ensure that the public is educated and empowered to make choices that positively affect their health.”
By fostering collaboration and raising awareness, Senator García and community leaders are setting the foundation for meaningful change in how food is produced and consumed. Their efforts mark an important step toward a healthier, more informed Miami-Dade County — one that prioritizes transparency, safety and the well-being of its residents.
