Restoration of Voting Rights
Amendment 4 restores the voting rights of Floridians with felony convictions after they complete all terms of their sentence including parole or probation. The amendment does not apply to those convicted of murder or sexual offenses, who continue to be permanently barred from voting unless the Governor and Cabinet vote to restore their voting rights on a case by case basis.
The Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections proudly serves potential voters in the act of voter registration. Under this new law, the role of the Supervisor of Elections remains the same. We rely on the voter indicating on the voter registration application that they are eligible to vote. If the voter affirms they meet all qualifications, we will register them. The voter’s information is then sent to the Florida Division of Elections, who will research and verify the voter’s identity and eligibility under the new law.
