• Greenline Rail Replacement Project

  Metrorail has a 25-mile track system with two sets of rails in each direction which run, for the most part, on an elevated guideway. Additionally, Metrorail tracks include crossover rails throughout the system and end tracks at both terminus stations.  
  
  As part of the Greenline Rail Replacement Project, crews are replacing 100 linear miles of track from Dadeland South Station in South Dade to Palmetto Station in Northwest Miami-Dade.   
  
  This project is expected to be completed in 2025.

• Fastener Replacement Project

  During routine maintenance inspections of the Metrorail tracks, crews determined that over 200,000 fasteners in the system were beyond their useful life. As such, the department initiated a project to replace all fasteners. As of Nov. 2023, crews had replaced 67% of the 200,000 fasteners on the track. This project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2024.

• Acoustical Barrier Replacement Project

  A DTPW contractor is installing 17.6 miles of new state-of-the-art acoustical panels on the Metrorail guideway to abate sound produced by passing trains. The distance covered by this project is equivalent to the distance between South Beach and the Hard Rock Stadium and as part of the work, the contractor has removed 93,000 LF (what is LF?) of brackets totaling 581,650 pounds or the weight of a 747 Airplane.
  
  All work for the Acoustical Barrier Replacement Project is being performed at night and during some weekends. As of Oct. 2023, Phase 1 of this project was 96% completed. Phase 2 is expected to be completed in 2024.

• County Courthouse Project

  For safety reasons, DTPW must single track in the construction area of the County’s new Civil and Probate Courthouse located adjacent to the Government Center Metrorail Station in Downtown Miami. 
  
  The new Civil and Probate Courthouse is expected to be under construction until late 2024 or early 2025. Upon completion, the state-of-the-art County facility will include 46 jury courtrooms and shelled space for four additional courtroom sets to accommodate future growth in the judicial system. The new courthouse will also include offices and public spaces to be occupied by the Clerk of Courts and the Law Library.

• Ongoing maintenance

  Various sub-systems that make up the entire Metrorail track and guideway include traction power and critical life safety signaling and train control components that are part of the original 40 plus year-old design. As such, general maintenance and overhauling of these sub-systems is absolutely critical to ensure the safety of millions of Metrorail riders and to extend the lifespan of the entire system well into the next 40 years.
