The Water Wisely Program helps you become more water efficient
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the average American household uses about 30 percent of its water outdoors, while in some parts of the country, this can be as high as 70 percent. Experts estimate that as much as 50 percent of landscape water use goes to waste due to evaporation, wind, or runoff caused by overwatering.
Landscaping Tips and Requirements
- Homeowners are encouraged to install Florida Friendly plants naturally suited to South Florida's climate conditions. Miami-Dade County's Water and Sewer Department's Water Wisely program offers residents water conservation programs and tips to help you become more water efficient while maintaining a beautiful yard and landscaping. Rain Barrel Rebate Program
- Installing a rain barrel is an inexpensive way to capture and store rain water that can be used to water your plants. Miami-Dade County promotes the use of rain barrels for irrigation by offering workshops and rebates to homeowners who purchase rain barrels. Rainfall captured from a roof provides a supply of chemical free water for orchids, potted plants and landscaping while reducing pollution from storm water runoff. Learn more about rain barrels.
Free Landscape Irrigation Evaluations and Rebates
- Reduce your yard's water use by requesting a free landscape irrigation evaluation. Eligible applicants can receive rebates up to $500 for single-family homes and $2,850 for large properties including condominium associations as part of the Landscape Irrigation Rebate Program. Efficient irrigation will reduce the amount of water used outdoors to create healthier, more sustainable landscapes. Schedule your free evaluation.
