• Where can I purchase, replace or renew my pet's tag?

  You can purchase, replace (obtain a duplicate), or renew your dog’s license (tag) at:

  • The Pet Adoption and Protection Center 
  • At any of the 311 Service Centers
  • The Humane Society Humane Society of Greater Miami
  • ASPCA – Liberty City location
  • Your local veterinarian’s office, or
  • By mail - payable by check or money order (cash not accepted via mail) and include a copy of the rabies certificate. Make check payable to:
    • Miami-Dade Animal Services Tag Unit

  Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old to register as a pet owner
  • Must be a Miami-Dade County resident
  • A valid driver's license or passport will be accepted as identification for the purpose of registering a dog
  • Proof of Miami-Dade address
  • Proof of rabies vaccination

  Renewals

  • The dog license tag must be renewed every year by the anniversary of the month and date of the dog’s most recent rabies vaccine, whether your dog receives the one-year rabies vaccination or the three-year rabies vaccination
    • A three-year tag must be purchased when the three-year vaccine is administered or shortly thereafter with proof of three-year vaccination. Regardless of when the dog license is purchased, the expiration date will coincide with the vaccine expiration date
• How do I pay for a violation or citation on a tag renewal?

  Payment is processed by the Miami Dade Finance Department, Code Compliance Administration.

  • ATM Check card with Visa or Mastercard logo - American Express not accepted.
  • Mail Payment to Miami Dade Finance Department, Code Compliance Administration, 2525 NW 62^nd ST Suite 4132A- Miami, Florida 33147
    • The citation number must be referenced on all check payments
    • Check, money order or cashier's check must be made payable to: Animal Service
    • Business checks, person presenting must have a current driver's license and checks must bear a business name, address and phone number.

  Note:

  • Payment of a citation does not achieve compliance.
  • Compliance is achieved when licensing and/or rabies vaccination requirement is met.
• How can I look up a license tag?

  It's easy to check the expiration of your license tag by entering the full tag number along with the first letter. The tag will have a letter followed by six numbers.

  If you find a dog, you can also look up the owner's information by putting in the license tag information.

• How do I transfer dog or cat license tag to a new owner?

  To transfer a dog’s or cat's license tag to a new owner you will need to provide the following documentation:

  • Both new and old owners must appear in person at the Animal Services Pet Adoption and Protection Center 
    • A notarized transfer of ownership letter from current owner and
    • Copies of each person’s driver's license or valid State photo ID

  To update the account:

  • If owner has died and close relative (father, daughter, mother, son) wants to transfer ownership, advise them of the age requirement (18) and
  • A copy of the person’s death certificate along with ID will be required.

  The documentation may be emailed or presented in person to:
