Capital Improvement Program - Small Business Initiatives

The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners directed departments with capital improvement programs to create small business sections to work with small businesses to provide opportunities for the communities and to act as a liaison with Miami-Dade County's Small Business Development Section. On September 14, 2015, the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department initiated the Small Business Initiatives Section (SBI).

Other objectives include:
  • Provide support to small businesses participating in the multi-billion dollar capital improvement program
  • Advocate for small business opportunity and economic advancement on Water and Sewer Department projects
  • Build relationships and partnerships for Water and Sewer Department contractors and service providers
Small Business and Local Workforce Initiatives:
  • Build a larger contractor pool to ensure equity and fairness on Water and Sewer Department projects
  • Provide an opportunity for knowledge and skills transfer
  • Provide access to technical training and resources
  • Offer a loan program for Consent Decree projects
  • Establish partnerships with the utility, construction and trade industries
  • Provide events to encourage and engage the community for support and inclusion in Water and Sewer Department activities and projects
  • Collect supportive data for reporting and transparency
