Graduates of MDSO Guardian Academy hold certificates at ceremony.

Fifteen graduates of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Guardian Academy completed intensive training to prepare for potential active shooter threats in schools, emphasizing vigilance and coordination with law enforcement. The program, created after the 2018 Parkland tragedy, has expanded to include public, charter, and private schools, with rigorous standards surpassing typical law enforcement firearm qualifications.

Lieutenant receives Lifesaving Award, Bronze Medal of Valor, and Distinguished Deputy of the month

Lt. Carlos Suarez of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office dove into a canal to help rescue a trapped driver after a crash, earning the Lifesaving Award, Bronze Medal of Valor, and Distinguished Deputy of the Month. Despite the honors, Suarez emphasized he was just doing his job, showing courage built on years of patrol experience.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Richard Zahalka protects 68,000 acres of farmland from organized produce thefts and other crimes, working closely with local growers. He has been recognized for cases ranging from fruit-poaching rings to animal cruelty while continuing professional agricultural training.

After enduring multiple surgeries and months of grueling rehab, Vallejos defied the odds and returned to duty, inspiring many with his strength, determination, and unwavering dedication to service.
